Talent Management Thailand 2006

talent_manage_thailand_2005Talent Management Trends and Challenges in Thailand:
A Study of Thai Organisations 2005

In today’s knowledge-based economy, competitive advantage is gained through the skills, knowledge, experience and network of an organisation’s workforce. While the demand for skilled labour is increasing, factors such as globalisation, changing demographics, outsourcing and evolving technologies are just a few of the factors reshaping the workforce and contributing to a widespread talent shortage. Across the globe, governments and employers are beginning to grasp the implications of an increasingly global labour market and the scarcity of talent.

There exists a limited body of knowledge on Thailand’s talent crisis and how it is being addressed by public and private sector organisations. In conducting this study, our aim was to examine the talent challenges faced by Thai organisations in addressing the talent shortage and to explore some of the implications of each approach.

The areas of research focus include:

  • Key challenges facing Thai organisations in their quest to become high performing organisations
  • Senior leadership’s role in defining and implementing the talent management strategy
  • Strategies used by these organisations to attract, develop, engage, retain and reward talent

The research was conducted from December 2005 to February 2006. Eighteen respondents from fourteen of Thailand’s leading organisations participated in an online survey which was followed-up with an in-depth interview. Additional data was compiled from Cape Group Talent Management seminars conducted in Thailand and from ongoing discussions with leading Thai organisations over the past year.
