Talent Management Malaysia 2006

Talent Management Practices in Leading Malaysian Organisations

In today’s knowledge-based economy, competitive advantage is gained through the skills, knowledge, experience and the network of an organisation’s workforce. While the demand for skilled labour is increasing, factors such as globalisation, changing demographics, outsourcing and evolving technologies are just a few of the factors reshaping the workforce and contributing to a widespread talent shortage. Across the globe, governments and employers are beginning to grasp the implications of an increasingly global labour market and the scarcity of talent.

The areas of research focus include:

  • Key challenges facing Malaysian organisations in their quest to become high performing organisations
  • Approaches being used by both local organisations and multinational companies (MNCs)
  • Senior leadership’s role in defining and implementing the talent management strategy
  • Strategies used by these organisations to attract, develop, engage, retain and reward talent
This research was conducted between December 2005 and February 2006. Twenty-five of Malaysia’s leading organisations participated in an online survey which was followed-up with interviews. Of these twenty-five organisations, twelve were MNCs. Additional data was compiled from discussions with other Malaysian organisations over the past year.
